The Anti Robbery Squad commonly referred to as SARS was set up in 1984 to tackle problems of armed robbery in Nigeria. Several criminal charges have been placed on the SARS by organizations like the Amnesty International.
A 24 year old Sunday Bang, was allegedly held in detention by the SARS unit for five weeks. He suffered bone fracture due to the ill treatment and torture he received.
The SARS unit have been accused of physical abuse and torture. Nigerians feel threatened by the harrassment of the SARS. They believe the SARS have failed in their duty to fight rampant armed robbery in Nigeria. Hence, the Nigerian citizens have decided to embark on a protest to end the SARS.
