The Black Stars of Ghana play their first competitive match after several months of no international football primarily due to the spread of the Coronavirus.
The game against Mali which comes off in Turkey will also be the first game of CK Akonnor who was appointed to replace Kwesi Appiah.
Ahead of the game, we take a look at what the Black Stars players are saying.
After sealing a move to London based side Arsenal on transfer deadline day, Thomas Partey joined the Black Stars for their preparations and couldn’t hide his delight when asked about the quality of players available at the camp of the Black Stars.
He told the official website for the Ghana Football Association: “I am very happy; we have a lot of quality players in the team. There are so many Ghanaian players out there who are good but not all of us can be here. Fortunately, we are here because we won the heart of the Coach. And I think it’s a good place to show what we have.”
The Mali game could also see Emmanuel Lomotey making his debut for his country and he had this to say about his potential debut.
“I am very glad to be given the opportunity to join the Black Stars is a dream come true. Every player’s dream is to play for the Blacks Stars so I am very excited to join the team. Being given the opportunity, I just have to take the opportunity in good faith and make good use of it,” he said.
After receiving a call up after years of absence, midfielder Bernard Mensah has also been impressed by the determination in the camp and believes that the team is playing to win every game especially with the quality of players at their disposal.
He said: We want to win every game; we are Black Stars. We have good players, Jordan Ayew, Andre and Thomas. I think we have a very good squad and we want to win every game. The two games are very important for us, the new players also want to prove something in these two games, so yes, we are ready and we want to win every game.
