The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is still protesting against the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary election results declared by the chairperson of the Electoral Commission Jean Mensah stating there were some irregularities on the part of the EC.
The presidential candidate for the party, John Dramani Mahama has also refused to concede defeat and the party in several instances has issued a message to its members and supporters to get to the streets to protest against the EC and the results for some international bodies to realized what’s going on in the country.
This is not the first time in the history of this country that a presidential candidate has refused to concede defeat after the EC has declared a winner as this same thing happened in the aftermath of the 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary general elections when the then chairperson of the EC Dr. Afari Gyan declared the then president and candidate for the NDC John Dramani Mahama winner of the elections.
Well, as we cast our minds back, the General-Secretary of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia in an interview on Adom TV after the 2012 general elections advised the then-presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who was in opposition to going to court if he doesn’t agree with the EC’s results rather than resulting in violence.
Interestingly there is a saying that the internet doesn’t lie, hence the moment at which he spewed such advice has resurfaced online after they refused to address the court over alleged “stolen election”
