Should Chelsea sack coach Frank Lampard? After Chelsea’s loss to Tottenham Hotspurs in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, several people called for the head of the former England International and now Chelsea coach, Frank Lampard.
The disappointing result was followed by another unimpressive first-half display against West Brom in which they conceded 3 goals in the first 30 minutes of the game.
The argument for his sacking thus sounds legitimate. After his inability to bring in players due to Chelsea’s transfer ban last summer, Frank Lampard has been backed massively with a host of players including Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, Ben Chilwell from Leicester City, Mendy from Stades Rennes joining the club in big-money moves.
Talented and one of the most sought after talents in the world, Kai Havertz has also joined form Leverkusen while Champions League finalists, Thiago Silva has also joined from Paris Saint Germain on a free transfer. With such a huge spending it is justifiable that several will demand results immediately from Lampard.
On the other hand, it will be a bit harsh to call for the head of the manager given a variety of challenges that he has to solve currently. Even with those huge acquisitions, there is no guarantee of success this season considering the fact that the players will need time to adjust to the Premier League.
Of all the acquisitions, it is Werner who looks sharper and it is undoubtedly due to the fact that he has had enough time to train with the team, stretching from the back end of last season when he sealed his move to London.
Both Kai Havertz and Thiago Silva have struggled a bit in the Premier League as a result of short pre-season with the club while the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell have not had minutes yet because of their injuries.
It is also worth noting that Christian Pulisic who was Chelsea’s best player in the second half of last season has also not joined the team because of the injury he sustained against Arsenal in the finals of the FA Cup game last season.
It is thus understandable for many to demand immediate success from Lampard but at the same time, it will be better for some patients to prevail given the fact he has not had enough time to put his squad together.
