The national Democratic Congress (NDC)’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahma(JM) publicly declares that if voted into power will set free all the prisoners who were locked up due to galamsey(illegal mining).

Under the leadership of Akufo-Addo, as a part of his goals to end galamsey had imprisoned some number of individual who engaged in illegal mining.

According to the former president, he is willing to release all those who engaged in galamsey to their families for a reunion so that there can take up a new walk of life.

At Adum Banso of the Mpohor Constituency in the Western Region to commence his campaign tour to the region, he made mention that it baffles him to note that we have chased our own people from engaging in galamsey while allowing foreigners who are not even citizens of this country to engage in galamsey and are set free without questioning.
He is quoted to have said: “It’s sad.

“When we come, we shall grant all those arrested and jailed some amnesty. They will come back to their homes and work. I believe that they have suffered enough, shown remorse for whatever wrong they committed.

We have instituted measures to check on the operations of small scale mining and this shall address all those issues that riddled the sector in years past,” Mr. Mahama clarified

In the NDC’s manifesto ,It is JM’s ambition not to only free the said prisoners but to find them a descent job by employing them to work in the mining grounds but this time under a controlled environment.
