Ghana Education minister has revealed that free shs and double track system will be maintained for the next three years.
According to Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the free shs policy has benefited 1.2 million students in Ghana and its gradually achieving its aim of education children at the second cycle level for free.
He further said that government has spent over 7.7 billion on this policy for the past four years.
Breaking the amount spent on the policy down at the Minister’s press briefing, Dr Adtwum said an amount of GH¢480 million was spent on the Policy in 2017, GH¢1.3 billion in 2018, GH¢1.6 billion in 2019, GHC2.4 billion in 2020, while GHC1.9 billion would be spent this year.
“We may not have the best education system in the world, but we had made giant strides over the past four years,” Dr Osei-Adutwum stressed. “For education to be fit-for-purpose, we should have students who are creative and critical thinkers, especially in this Fourth Industrial Revolution to navigate the world,” Dr Osei-Adutwum added”.
