Many Afghans travel to neighboring Pakistan to seek medical treatment, visit relatives or escape the ongoing violence in their country.
The Visa Center in Jabalabad has been closed down for seven months due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Visa applications to Pakistan have just resumed.
Due to this, thousands of people gathered at the Visa Center in the city of Jabalabad, to request for permit to Pakistan. As the crowd was growing, they were redirected to a sports stadium.
An inconvenience from the crowd led to a stampede. This resulted in the death of eleven women with several others sustaining severe injuries.
Mansoor Ahmad Khan, Pakistan ambassador to Afghanistan said he was sadened by the incidence. He went ahead to say that his country will engage with Afghanistan authorities for better facilitations of Visa applicants.
