Kuami Eugene winning at the just ended VGMA awards as the artist of the year generated so much controversy in the country, with several music pundits and lovers indicating that the Lynx Entertainment signee was not deserving of the award.
Instead, the likes of Sarkodie and Kofi Kinaata were considered as the most deserving candidates. Sarkodie who had won the award on several occasions looked set for glory on the night but things did not go as expected just as it was for Kofi Kinaata.
The onus, thus, now lies on Kuami Eugene to show Ghanaians that he is not just made for the local scene but for the international scene as well. And there is no better way to show that than by winning the coveted BET award.
For several years, only Sarkodie and Stoneboy have been able to win BET awards for the country for the category of Best International Act although others such as Mzvee, DBlack, Samini, and Kwesi Arthur have received nominations before.
History reveals that Sarkodie won the VGMA artist of the year in 2012 and went ahead to win the BET Best African Act award also in the same year.
Stonebwoy also has the same story. He won the BET Best African act award in 2015 after winning the ultimate VGMA artist of the year award.
If this is some logic to go by, the Lynx Entertainment signed act and ‘Wish me well’ singer Kuami Marfo Eugene can also win the award after he has emerged the VGMA20 artist of the year.
Can Kuami Eugene win BET Award for Ghana?
Kuami Eugene’s talent is certainly not in doubt. The talented singer has over the years shown how good of an artist he is by releasing back to back songs which have received massive airplay across the country. He has also mounted the biggest stages of musical shows in the country and has delivered on almost all occasions.
In addition to the aforementioned, Eugene has a knack for delivering in collaborations with other artists which has enhanced his already growing reputation.
He has also won ambassadorial contracts with the likes of Itel and Adonko Next level, pointing to his growing influence on the industry.
But just like every artist, he has work to do particularly in terms of building a strong brand outside the borders of the country.
Unlike previously, where the award in the category was ‘Best African Act’ which only looked at talents from Africa, now things have changed.
The category is now, ‘Best International Act‘, which is broader and requires a lot of hard work to win it because the category is now opened to all black musicians across the globe doing significantly well with their music.
For Kuami Eugene to win the Best International Act means that his music must have traveled to far ends of the globe and have made significant impacts in the international music industry.
However, it should come as no surprise if Kuami Eugene is able to receive a BET nomination and even go ahead to win a BET award for his country.
The musician is set to drop his second studio album which he has titled ‘Son of Africa’. He has already released a single dubbed ‘Open Gate’ from the album.
The song ‘Open Gate’ is doing amazingly well on digital platforms. At the time of putting this article together, his star-filled visuals to the song has garnered over 2.7 million views on YouTube.
The numbers the song keeps gathering is a clear indication that the soon to be released Son of Africa album by Kuami Eugene is going to witness greatness. Fillabse.com wishes him all the best as he keeps taking Ghana higher.
