Retired Ghanaian footballer, Derek Owusu Boateng, has supposedly been arrested by the police for over speeding.
According to sources, Derek Owusu Boateng was one of the 35 drivers detained in Accra for various traffic offenses during a joint activity by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), and the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) on the Olusegun Obasanjo road and J. A. Kufour Avenue.
It was reported that the drivers were arrested for driving at speeds over the 50 km/hr limit allowed why plying such route.
A video going viral sees the retired footballer begging the police official to pardon him for his wrong doing. The arresting officer then assured him saying there would be no “selective justice.”
Derrick Owusu Boateng at that point addressed his protests to the Accra Mayor, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, who was also present to see how the operation was ongoing.
Mohammed Adjei Sowah could be heard disclosing to Boateng that he had no authority over him and that he was unable to arrange the cops to release him.
