There are only a few weeks to Ghana’s 2020 elections which comes off on 7th December 2020 and the Electoral Commission is now receiving nominations from presidential candidates and parliamentary aspirants.
The EC earlier released a statement indicating that the filing of nominations will be between October 5-9, 2020, declaring an amount of GH¢100,000 to be paid as the filing fee for Presidential candidates and GH¢10,000 for that of Parliamentary candidates to be paid through a bankers draft.
Candidates in the 2020 elections are expected to download the forms online and then file to the electoral commission office. With this in mind, we take a look at those who will be submitting their nomination forms today.
Who is filing today?
The President of the country and the Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo Addo, indicated through a tweet yesterday that he will be filing his nomination in person today at the electoral commission office.
The tweet read: “I will, on Tuesday, 6th October 2020, file my nomination forms for the 2020 presidential election, in person, at the offices of the Electoral Commission in Accra. “
The tweet was also backed by the statement of the Acting Head of Public Affairs at the Electoral Commission, Sylvia Annoh who disclosed the Party will file their nomination at 11:00am.
The flagbearer of the All People Congress (APC) ,Hassan Ayariga, is also expected to file his nomination as Presidential candidate for his party at 3:00pm while Independent Candidate, Jacob Osei Yeboah of JOY will also file his nomination at 9:00am on the same day.
The Presidential candidate for the Ghana Freedom Party, Akua Donkor will also file her nomination for the 2020 elections tomorrow, October 6, 2020, at 10:00 am.
